Suy Niệm: Chúa hẹn các tông đồ đến Galilê; trước khi về trời, Chúa sai các ngài đi rao giảng Tin Mừng, rửa tội cho mọi người: Nhân Danh Cha và Con, và Thánh Thần, dạy họ: tuân giữ mọi điều Chúa dạy, Chúa hứa Chúa sẽ ở lại mọi ngày cho đến tận thế.
Ai chịu Phép Rửa, và tin vào Lời Chúa, sẽ được cứu rỗi, ai không tin sẽ bị kết án, và các ngài sẽ làm được nhiều dấu lạ nhân Danh Người.
Chúa nhắc lại lời Kinh Thánh nói về Người: Đức Kitô phải chịu khổ hình, ngày thứ ba từ cõi chết sẽ sống lại, các ngài phải làm chứng về điều ấy cho mọi người tin theo.
Cầu Nguyện: Lạy Chúa, tin theo lời các Tông đồ truyền dạy, chúng con tin Chúa: đã chịu đau khổ, chịu chết, phục sinh và lên trời hiển vinh. Chúng con tin, và quyết sống theo Lời Chúa. Nhưng, lạy Chúa, còn nhiều người chưa hiểu, chưa tin theo, xin Chúa ban ơn hướng dẫn chúng con còn có thể nối nghiệp tông đồ Chúa xưa, rao truyền Lời Chúa để mọi con cái Chúa cũng được hiểu, được tin phục vụ và thực thi điều Chúa truyền dạy, hầu được hưởng hồng ân cứu chuộc. Xin Chúa nhận lời chúng con.

Chúa Nhật 7 Phục Sinh – Chúa Thăng Thiên – năm C
Bài Ðọc I: Cv 1, 1-11 “Trước sự chứng kiến của các ông, Người lên trời”.
Trích sách Tông đồ Công vụ.
Hỡi Thêôphilê, trong quyển thứ nhất, tôi đã tường thuật tất cả những điều Ðức Giêsu đã bắt đầu làm và giảng dạy, cho đến ngày Người lên trời, sau khi căn dặn các Tông đồ, những kẻ Người đã tuyển chọn dưới sự hướng dẫn của Thánh Thần. Sau cuộc thương khó, Người đã tỏ cho các ông thấy Người vẫn sống, với nhiều bằng chứng Người đã hiện ra với các ông trong khoảng bốn mươi ngày và đàm đạo về Nước Thiên Chúa. Và trong một bữa ăn, Người đã ra lệnh cho các ông chớ rời khỏi Giêrusalem, nhưng hãy chờ đợi điều Chúa Cha đã hứa. Người nói: “Như các con đã nghe chính miệng Thầy rằng: Gioan đã làm phép rửa bằng nước, phần các con, ít ngày nữa, các con sẽ chịu phép rửa trong Thánh Thần”.
Vậy các kẻ có mặt hỏi Người rằng: “Lạy Thầy, có phải đã đến lúc Thầy khôi phục Nước Israel chăng?” Người bảo họ rằng: “Ðâu phải việc các con hiểu biết thời gian hay kỳ hạn mà Cha đã ấn định do quyền bính Ngài. Nhưng các con sẽ nhận được sức mạnh của Thánh Thần ngự xuống trên các con, và các con sẽ nên chứng nhân cho Thầy tại Giêrusalem, trong tất cả xứ Giuđêa và Samaria, và cho đến tận cùng trái đất”. Nói xong, Người được cất lên trước mắt các ông, và một đám mây bao phủ Người khuất mắt các ông.
Ðang khi các ông còn ngước mắt lên trời nhìn theo Người đang xa đi, thì bỗng có hai người mặc áo trắng đứng gần các ông và nói rằng: “Hỡi người Galilê, sao các ông còn đứng nhìn lên trời? Ðức Giêsu, Ðấng vừa lìa các ông mà lên trời, sẽ đến cùng một thể thức như các ông đã thấy Người lên trời”. Ðó là lời Chúa.
Ðáp Ca: Tv 46, 2-3. 6-7. 8-9 Ðáp: Thiên Chúa ngự lên giữa tiếng tưng bừng, Chúa ngự lên trong tiếng kèn vang (c. 6).

Anh em thân mến, xin Thiên Chúa của Ðức Giêsu Kitô, Chúa chúng ta, là Cha vinh hiển, ban cho anh em thần trí khôn ngoan và mạc khải, để nhận biết Người, xin cho mắt tâm hồn anh em được sáng suốt, để anh em biết thế nào là trông cậy vào ơn Người kêu gọi, thế nào là sự phong phú gia nghiệp vinh quang nơi các thánh, và thế nào là quyền năng vô cùng lớn lao của Người đối với chúng ta, là những kẻ tin, chiếu theo hành động của sức mạnh quyền năng Người, công việc mà Chúa đã thực hiện trong Ðức Kitô, tức là làm cho Ngài từ cõi chết sống lại, và đặt Ngài ngự bên hữu mình trên trời, vượt trên mọi cấp trật, các lãnh thần, quyền thần, dũng thần, và quản thần, vượt trên mọi danh hiệu được xưng hô cả đời này lẫn đời sau. Chúa khiến mọi sự quy phục dưới chân Ngài, và tôn Ngài làm đầu toàn thể Hội Thánh là thân thể Ngài, và là sự sung mãn của Ðấng chu toàn mọi sự trong mọi người. Ðó là lời Chúa.

Khi ấy, Chúa Giêsu phán cùng các môn đệ rằng: “Như đã ghi chép là Ðức Kitô phải chịu khổ hình và ngày thứ ba từ cõi chết sống lại; và nhân danh Người mà rao giảng việc sám hối và ơn tha tội trong mọi dân, bắt đầu từ Giêrusalem. Các con là nhân chứng những sự việc ấy. Thầy sẽ sai đến với các con Ðấng Cha Thầy đã hứa; vậy các con hãy ở lại trong thành cho đến khi mặc lấy quyền lực từ trên cao ban xuống”. Rồi Người dẫn các ông ra ngoài, đến làng Bêtania, và giơ tay chúc phúc cho các ông. Sự việc xảy ra là đang khi Người chúc phúc cho các ông, Người rời khỏi các ông mà lên trời. Các ông thờ lạy Người, và trở về Giêrusalem lòng đầy vui mừng. Các ông luôn luôn ở trong đền thờ mà chúc tụng Thiên Chúa. Amen. Ðó là lời Chúa.

Gospel Lk 24,46-53
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,
would be preached in his name
to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.
And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you;
but stay in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Then he led them out as far as Bethany,
raised his hands, and blessed them.
As he blessed them he parted from them
and was taken up to heaven.
They did him homage
and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
and they were continually in the temple praising God.

Daily Reading & Meditation Sunday (May 29): “May they become perfectly one“
Scripture: John 17:20-26
20 “I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory which you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which you have given me in your love for me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you; and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Meditation: When you pray what do you ask for – God’s help, blessing, guidance, and wisdom? One of the greatest privileges and responsibilities we have been given by God is to pray not only for ourselves, but for others as well. The Lord Jesus lived a life full of prayer, blessing, and gratitude to his Father in heaven. He prayed for his disciples, especially when they were in great need or danger. Mark tells us in his Gospel account (see chapter 6:46-51) that when Jesus was praying alone on the mountain he saw that his disciples were in great distress due to a life-threatening storm that was beating against their boat. Jesus immediately came to their rescue – walking on the waves of the rough waters before he calmed their fears and calmed the raging waters as well! Luke records in his Gospel account the words of Jesus to Simon Peter shortly before Jesus’ arrest and Peter’s denial of the Lord three times. “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:32). Jesus’ prayers were personal, direct, and focused on the welfare and well-being of others – especially that they might find peace and unity with God and with one another.
Jesus prays for all Christians to be united as one
The longest recorded prayer of Jesus is found in the Gospel of John, the “high priestly” prayer which Jesus prayed aloud at his last supper meal with his disciples (John 17). This prayer most clearly reveals the heart and mind of Jesus – who and what he loved most – love for his Father in heaven and love for all who believe in him. His prayer focuses on the love and unity he desires for all who would believe in him and follow him, not only in the present, but in the future as well.
Jesus’ prayer concludes with a petition for the unity among all Christians who profess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus prays for all men and women who will come after him and follow him as his disciples (John 17:20). In a special way Jesus prays here for each one of us that as members of his body the church we would be one as he and his Father are one. The unity of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, with the eternal Father is a unity of mutual love, service, and honor, and a oneness of mind, heart, and spirit. The Lord Jesus calls each and every one of his followers into this unity of mutual love, respect, service, honor, and friendship with all who belong to Christ.
To make him known and loved by all
Jesus’ prayer on the eve of his sacrifice shows the great love and trust he had for his beloved disciples. He knew they would abandon him in his hour of trial, yet he entrusted to them the great task of spreading his name throughout the world and to the end of the ages. The Lord Jesus entrusts us today with the same mission – to make him known and loved by all. Jesus died and rose again that all might be one as he and the Father are one. Do you love all who belong to Christ and do you recognize and accept all baptized Christians as your brothers and sisters in Christ? The Lord Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, draws each one of us into the unity which he and the Father have together and into the unity he desires for all who belong to him – we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and sons and daughters of our beloved Father in heaven.
The Lord intercedes for us right now
The Lord Jesus Christ included each one of us in his high priestly prayer at the last supper meal with his disciples on the eve of his sacrifice on the cross (John 17:20). And today the Lord Jesus continues his high priestly office as our intercessor before the throne of God in heaven. Paul the Apostle tells us that it is “Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us” (Romans 8:34; see also Hebrews 7: 25). Do you join in Jesus’ high priestly prayer that all who profess Jesus as Lord may grow in love and unity together as brothers and sisters who have been redeemed through the precious blood that was shed for us on the cross?
“Heavenly Father, have mercy on all your people who have been redeemed by the precious blood of your Son who offered up his life for us on the cross. Pardon our sins and heal our divisions that we may grow in love, unity, and holiness together as your sons and daughters. May all Christian people throughout the world attain the unity for which Jesus prayed on the eve of his sacrifice. Renew in us the power of the Holy Spirit that we may be a sign of that unity and a means of its growth. Increase in us a fervent love, respect, and care for all of our brothers and sisters who believe in Jesus Christ.”
