Suy Niệm: Qua bài Tin Mừng, Ðức Giêsu trình bày dung mạo một vị vua hiền hậu lạ lùng: Ông tự ý mở tiệc, cho các đầy tớ hết lớp này đến lớp khác đi mời, dù khách được mời không thèm đến, lại còn giết các sứ giả được sai đến với họ.
Dung mạo vị vua càng hiền hậu bao nhiêu càng làm nổi bật sự vô ơn bất xứng của khách được mời bấy nhiêu. Họ tỏ ra khinh mạn, hổn xược với tấm lòng quảng đại của nhà vua: người không thèm đến, kẻ đến lại không mặc áo cưới…
Chúng ta cũng được Thiên Chúa mời gọi vào dự tiệc trong Nước Trời. Chúng ta đã đáp trả với thái độ nào?
Cầu Nguyện: Lạy Cha, chúng con rất muốn vào dự tiệc trong Nước Cha. Xin giúp chúng con biết can đảm và quyết tâm thay đổi chiếc áo cũ của chúng con, để mặc lấy áo cưới mới xinh đẹp là tâm hồn trong trắng. Xin cho chúng con cảm nghiệm được tình yêu thương của Cha, để chúng con mau mắn đến với Cha trong bí tích hòa giải và Thánh Thể. Trong niềm hân hoan, chúng con mong chờ ngày được vào dự tiệc cánh chung của Cha. Chúng con cầu xin nhờ Ðức Giêsu Con Cha, Chúa chúng con. Amen.

Bài Ðọc I: Is 25, 6-10a “Chúa mời đến dự tiệc của Người và lau sạch nước mắt trên mọi khuôn mặt”.

Ngày ấy, Chúa các đạo binh sẽ thết tất cả các dân trên núi này một bữa tiệc đầy thịt rượu, thịt thì béo, rượu thì ngon. Trên núi này, Người sẽ cất khăn tang bao trùm muôn dân và tấm khăn liệm trải trên mọi nước. Người tiêu diệt sự chết đến muôn đời. Thiên Chúa sẽ lau sạch nước mắt trên mọi khuôn mặt, và cất bỏ khỏi toàn mặt đất sự tủi hổ của dân Người, vì Người đã phán. Ngày đó, người ta sẽ nói: Này đây Chúa chúng ta. Ðây là Chúa, nơi Người, chúng ta đã tin tưởng, chúng ta hãy hân hoan và vui mừng vì ơn Người cứu độ, vì Chúa sẽ đặt tay của Người trên núi này. Ðó là lời Chúa.

Khi ấy, Chúa Giêsu lại phán cùng các đầu mục tư tế và kỳ lão trong dân những dụ ngôn này rằng: “Nước trời giống như vua kia làm tiệc cưới cho hoàng tử. Vua sai đầy tớ đi gọi những người đã được mời dự tiệc cưới, nhưng họ không chịu đến. Vua lại sai các đầy tớ khác mà rằng: “Hãy nói cùng những người đã được mời rằng: Này ta đã dọn tiệc sẵn rồi, đã hạ bò và súc vật béo tốt rồi, mọi sự đã sẵn sàng: xin mời các ông đến dự tiệc cưới”. Những người ấy đã không đếm xỉa gì và bỏ đi: người thì đi thăm trại, người thì đi buôn bán; những người khác thì bắt đầy tớ vua mà nhục mạ và giết đi. Khi vua nghe biết, liền nổi cơn thịnh nộ, sai binh lính đi tru diệt bọn sát nhân đó, và thiêu huỷ thành phố của chúng. Bấy giờ vua nói với các đầy tớ rằng: “Tiệc cưới đã dọn sẵn sàng, nhưng những kẻ đã được mời không đáng dự. Vậy các ngươi hãy ra các ngả đường, gặp bất cứ ai, thì mời vào dự tiệc cưới”. Các đầy tớ liền đi ra đường, gặp ai bất luận tốt xấu, đều quy tụ lại và phòng cưới chật ních khách dự tiệc.
{Ðoạn vua đi vào quan sát những người dự tiệc, và thấy ở đó một người không mặc y phục lễ cưới. Vua liền nói với người ấy rằng: “Này bạn, sao bạn vào đây mà lại không mặc y phục lễ cưới?” Người ấy lặng thinh. Bấy giờ vua truyền cho các đầy tớ rằng: “Trói tay chân nó lại, ném nó vào nơi tối tăm, ở đó sẽ phải khóc lóc và nghiến răng! Vì những kẻ được gọi thì nhiều, còn những kẻ được chọn thì ít”.} Ðó là lời Chúa.
LỜI NGUYỆN CHUNG:
Chủ Tế: Anh chị em thân mến, Thiên Chúa mời gọi, ban phát tình thương và ân sủng một cách vô giới hạn cho tất cả mọi người. Chúng ta cùng cảm tạ Chúa và dâng lời cầu xin.
1- Chúa Giêsu đã dùng bí tích Thánh tẩy mà quy tụ chúng ta vào trong Hội Thánh / Chúng ta hiệp lời cầu xin Chúa ban Thánh Thần hiệp nhất đến trong Hội Thánh / để Người loại trừ mọi bất hòa / ghen ghét và chia rẽ giữa những người có cùng một niềm tin.
2- Chúa Giêsu là vua đem lại hòa bình / Chúng ta hiệp lời cầu xin Chúa tiêu diệt mầm móng chiến tranh / và cho muôn dân được an cư lạc nghiệp.
3- Đời sống thường ngày đem lại cho con người hạnh phúc thì ít / mà phiền muộn đau khổ lại nhiều / Chúng ta hiệp lời cầu xin Chúa ban Thánh Thần / là nguồn an ủi kỳ diệu đến trần gian / đề Người lau sạch nước mắt cho những ai đang khổ sầu.
4- Ngày phán xét chung / Chúa chỉ căn cứ vào một tiêu chuẩn duy nhất / để thưởng công hay luận tội người kitô hữu / Chúng ta hiệp lời cầu xin cho cộng đoàn giáo xứ chúng ta / luôn sống trọn vẹn niềm tin đã lãnh nhận / đặc biệt là biết chân thành yêu thương hết thảy mọi người.
Chủ Tế: Lạy Chúa, xin ban ơn trợ giúp chúng con sống trọn vẹn ơn gọi kitô hữu, nhờ đó chúng con có thể mạnh dạn nói như Thánh Phaolô trong thư gửi tín hữu Galát : “Tôi sống, nhưng không còn phải là tôi, mà là Đức Kitô sống trong tôi”. Chúng con cầu xin nhờ Đức Kitô chúa chúng con, Amen.

Gospel Mt 22,1-14
Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people
in parables, saying,
“The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king
who gave a wedding feast for his son.
He dispatched his servants
to summon the invited guests to the feast,
but they refused to come.
A second time he sent other servants, saying,
‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet,
my calves and fattened cattle are killed,
and everything is ready; come to the feast.”’
Some ignored the invitation and went away,
one to his farm, another to his business.
The rest laid hold of his servants,
mistreated them, and killed them.
The king was enraged and sent his troops,
destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants, ‘The feast is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
Go out, therefore, into the main roads
and invite to the feast whomever you find.’
The servants went out into the streets
and gathered all they found, bad and good alike,
and the hall was filled with guests.
But when the king came in to meet the guests,
he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
The king said to him, ‘My friend, how is it
that you came in here without a wedding garment?’
But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet,
and cast him into the darkness outside,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’

1 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son,3 and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast;but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, `Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves are killed, and everything is ready; come to the marriage feast.’ 5 But they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, 6 while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, `The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Go therefore to the thoroughfares, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.’ 10 And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment; 12 and he said to him, `Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, `Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Meditation: What can a royal wedding party tell us about God’s kingdom? One of the most beautiful images used in the Scriptures to depict what heaven is like is the wedding celebration and royal feast given by the King for his newly-wed son and bride. Whatever grand feast we can imagine on earth, heaven is the feast of all feasts because the Lord of heaven and earth invites us to the most important banquet of all – not simply as bystanders or guests – but as members of Christ’s own body, his bride the church! The last book in the Bible ends with an invitation to the wedding feast of the Lamb – the Lord Jesus who offered his life as an atoning sacrifice for our sins and who now reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The Spirit and the Bride say, Come! (Revelations 22:17). The Lord Jesus invites us to be united with himself in his heavenly kingdom of peace and righteousness.
Whose interests come first – God or mine?
Why does Jesus’ parable of the marriage feast seem to focus on an angry king who ends up punishing those who refused his invitation and who mistreated his servants? Jesus’ parable contains two stories. The first has to do with the original guests invited to the marriage feast. The king had sent out invitations well in advance to his subjects, so they would have plenty of time to prepare for coming to the feast. How insulting for the invited guests to then refuse when the time for celebrating came! They made light of the King’s request because they put their own interests above his. They not only insulted the King but the heir to the throne as well. The king’s anger is justified because they openly refused to give the king the honor he was due. Jesus directed this warning to the Jews of his day, both to convey how much God wanted them to share in the joy of his kingdom, but also to give a warning about the consequences of refusing his Son, their Messiah and Savior.
An invitation we cannot refuse!
The second part of the story focuses on those who had no claim on the king and who would never have considered getting such an invitation. The “good and the bad” along the highways certainly referred to the Gentiles (non-Jews) and to sinners. This is certainly an invitation of grace – undeserved, unmerited favor and kindness! But this invitation also contains a warning for those who refuse it or who approach the wedding feast unworthily. God’s grace is a free gift, but it is also an awesome responsibility.
Cheap grace or costly grace?
Dieterich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor and theologian in Germany who died for his faith under Hitler’s Nazi rule, contrasted “cheap grace” and “costly grace”.
“Cheap grace is the grace we bestow on ourselves… the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance… grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate… Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock. Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life.”
God invites each of us as his friends to his heavenly banquet that we may celebrate with him and share in his joy. Are you ready to feast at the Lord’s banquet table?
“Lord Jesus, may I always know the joy of living in your presence and grow in the hope of seeing you face to face in your everlasting kingdom.”

“But since you have already come into the house of the marriage feast, our holy church, as a result of God’s generosity, be careful, my friends, lest when the King enters he find fault with some aspect of your heart’s clothing. We must consider what comes next with great fear in our hearts. But the king came in to look at the guests and saw there a person not clothed in a wedding garment. What do we think is meant by the wedding garment, dearly beloved? For if we say it is baptism or faith, is there anyone who has entered this marriage feast without them? A person is outside because he has not yet come to believe. What then must we understand by the wedding garment but love? That person enters the marriage feast, but without wearing a wedding garment, who is present in the holy church. He may have faith, but he does not have love. We are correct when we say that love is the wedding garment because this is what our Creator himself possessed when he came to the marriage feast to join the church to himself. Only God’s love brought it about that his only begotten Son united the hearts of his chosen to himself.
